Content Editor

Hiring now Lagos, on site Full time Open

About the role

The Role

Filming, editing and still image production for the whole unit. One master cut, dressed for every platform, in one design system that makes the grid read like a front page.

Three on-camera journalists bring you scripts and briefs; you turn them into twenty finished pieces a week across video, graphics and infographics, each one on spec, on brand and on time. You own the master file and the platform variants, the design system and the template pack, the kit and the asset library. Reports to the Content Creator Coordinator.

What You'll Do

1. Film. Studio and location shoots: camera, lighting and sound. Frame every shot so it works in both 9:16 and 16:9 without a reshoot. Set the studio up so a creator can record a piece in twenty minutes. 2. Edit. Cut the master: hook inside three seconds, one idea per piece, captions burned in, sound mixed, a two-second end card that points back to LekeeLekee. Then dress it for each platform. 3. Design graphics and infographics. Cover frames with the headline in the top third, quote cards, carousels, infographics and series idents, in one design system across the four pillars. 4. Hold the technical spec. A 9:16 master at 1080 by 1920 for short form and a 16:9 master for long form, from the same footage. 5. Run the pipeline. Same day for news, within the week for everything else. Keep the asset library, project files, fonts, music licences and presets organised. 6. Look after the kit. Cameras, lights, audio, storage and the edit machines. 7. Make the unit better at craft. Show the creators how to frame themselves, use the mic and shoot a usable phone clip.

Your First 90 Days

Day 30: the studio is set up and repeatable, the first design system and template pack is in use. Day 60: twenty finished pieces a week, every pillar has a series ident, the Instagram grid reads as one brand. Day 90: the library and presets are documented for a second editor, the podcast pilot kit is scoped.

About Lekeelekee

LekeeLekee is a digital community and content platform built for Africans at home and across the world, a space where culture, conversation, news and identity come together. Developed in partnership with ARISE Broadcast and THISDAY Media Group, we are focused on Nigeria and its diaspora, with a strong UK presence, and expanding across the continent and into African communities globally.

We are now building an in-house content unit in Lagos to run our external social channels and a share of the editorial on LekeeLekee itself. Five people, four pillars (Politics; Fashion, Lifestyle and Entertainment; Sports; Miscellaneous and Funny), one formula, twenty pieces a week across seven platforms. Everything it makes points back to the platform.

Why Join

  • Build the unit from the start. The calendar, the formula and the look are yours to set, not inherit.
  • Reach that a start-up cannot usually offer. ARISE News and THISDAY sit behind the platform, and the formula you run is designed to run for them too.
  • An audience worth making things for. Nigeria, the UK diaspora and Africans everywhere, with the under-25s next.
  • A clear number and the freedom to hit it. Twenty pieces a week, measured honestly, with room to experiment inside the formula.
  • Competitive salary benchmarked to market, with structure open to discussion for the right candidate.

Location

Based in Lagos, on site with the unit. Hours follow the publishing rhythm, including some evening posting windows shared across the unit. LekeeLekee is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds.

Who we are looking for

Experience

  • Typically 3 to 6 years editing short-form video for social, ideally on a daily publishing desk or in a content studio serving multiple presenters.
  • A portfolio that shows vertical video, motion graphics and designed stills in one consistent look. This matters more than the CV.
  • Fluent in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, quick in CapCut, After Effects or equivalent for motion and captions.
  • Strong design skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma or Canva.
  • Competent behind the camera: mirrorless or cinema cameras, lighting a small studio, clean audio on lavalier and shotgun mics.
  • Understands the technical requirements of each platform.

Attributes

  • Fast without being sloppy.
  • Systematic. Templates, presets, naming conventions and a tidy library.
  • Good taste, Nigerian eye. You know what looks premium to a Lagos audience.
  • A collaborator. Three journalists with three styles, one system.
  • Calm on deadline.
  • Curious about new tools. Generative video, AI captioning and automated cut-downs.

How To Apply

Send us your portfolio before your CV: three vertical pieces you cut, three stills you designed, and one thing you would fix about a social account you follow.
