When Tunde finally got his driver's license, Uncle Musa handed him the keys to the old Camry with one instruction: "Bring it back with the same fuel."
Tunde decided the Camry's first real outing would be his cousin's wedding, where the MC always called out the owners of the finest cars. He washed it twice, perfumed the seats, and drove in like a landlord's son.
The car agreed with the plan until the wedding gate. Then it made a sound like a goat clearing its throat and stopped. Right in front of the whole entrance.
Guests were arriving. The usher waved him forward. Tunde waved back confidently, as if parking in the middle of the gate was a choice. He tried the ignition again. The Camry coughed and released a cloud of smoke that the photographers mistook for special effects.
The groom's father came out, impressed. "This machine is doing wonders! Bring it in!"
So Tunde spent the entire wedding sitting in the dead car at the gate, waving guests through, smiling like a security officer. People took selfies with him. Children called him "Uncle gate."
By the time the toast was raised, Tunde had accepted his new title. He directed three taxis, broke up one argument, and forgot he came to dance.
When Uncle Musa called to ask for his car, Tunde said, "Your car is fine. It got a promotion. It is now the gate of the wedding."
