JALINGO – The Taraba State Government has launched an aggressive reform agenda to overhaul its business climate, partnering with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) to dismantle bureaucratic bottlenecks and attract private investment.
The initiative, announced at a technical workshop on business enabling reforms and investment competitiveness in Jalingo, aims to transition the state from traditional regulatory frameworks to a digitized, investor-friendly environment.
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, represented by the Commissioner for Rural and Urban Development, Dr. Emmanuel Lawson, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to these institutional shifts.
He emphasized that the state’s current reforms are specifically designed to bolster Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), unlock Taraba’s economic potential, and provide a secure, supportive environment for both local and foreign investors.
Earlier, the Director-General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, stressed that modern capital is highly mobile and demands transparency.
She urged the government to prioritize land administration, tax harmonization, and digital governance, adding that investors now rely heavily on reliable digital platforms and predictable institutional processes before committing resources.
She said, “Investors compare opportunities across states.
“They look for reliable institutions, service delivery timelines that are met, and a strong digital presence that provides clear information on incentives and policies.”
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Danjuma Saigudu, announced that a core component of the state’s drive to attract investors is the upcoming launch of a One-Stop Investment Centre.
He said the hub will serve as a central gateway, providing investors with consolidated, transparent information on strategic sectors including agriculture, mining, and energy.
Saigudu also added that the integration of digital tracking and feedback mechanisms would enable the state government replace outdated manual processes with an efficient, service-oriented approach to governance.
The workshop, which drew stakeholders from the government, the private sector, and development agencies, focused on actionable reforms, including regulatory impact analysis and investment lifecycle management.
