*SEEKING YOUR LIFTING FROM GOD -----PART 1*
GOD IS THE SOURCE OF TRUE LIFTING
Main Scripture: Psalm 75:6–7 (KJV)
"For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another."
*INTRODUCTION*
One of the deepest desires in the heart of many people is the desire to move forward in life. We desire progress in our careers, advancement in ministry, financial stability, leadership opportunities, recognition, and the fulfilment of our God-given potential. Nobody wants to remain stagnant when there is an opportunity to grow and become better. The desire for lifting, therefore, is not necessarily wrong. However, the source, motive, method, and purpose of that lifting are extremely important.
The critical question is not simply whether you desire promotion, but where are you seeking your promotion from?
Many people spend years struggling to gain the approval of influential individuals, seeking human connections, competing for positions, and pursuing opportunities through every available means. Some become discouraged because they have not received the recognition they believe they deserve. Others become bitter when people they consider less qualified are promoted ahead of them. Unfortunately, the pursuit of advancement can sometimes lead people into jealousy, manipulation, dishonesty, unhealthy competition, and compromise.
As believers, we must understand that although God can use people, institutions, relationships, and opportunities as instruments of advancement, He remains the ultimate source of true lifting.
Our main Scripture, Psalm 75:6–7, establishes this truth:
"For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another."
This passage reminds us that ultimate authority over promotion belongs to God. Human beings may have positions of authority, but their authority is not greater than God's sovereignty. People may recommend you, but God determines the ultimate purpose and direction of your life.
Consider Joseph. His brothers rejected him, he was sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned. Yet, through a series of unexpected circumstances, God brought him into a position of authority in Egypt. Consider David, who was not initially presented before Samuel when the prophet came to anoint a king. He was in the field tending sheep, but God had already identified him.
These examples teach us that your present location does not necessarily determine your future, and the absence of public recognition does not mean the absence of God's purpose.
However, seeking your lifting from God does not mean sitting idle and expecting opportunities to appear without preparation. It means working diligently, developing your abilities, remaining faithful, pursuing legitimate opportunities, and submitting your ambitions to God's wisdom and direction.
We must also understand that divine lifting is more than receiving a title, occupying an office, becoming wealthy, or gaining public recognition. True lifting should make us more responsible, more humble, more useful, and more committed to God's purpose. A position without character can become a burden, and influence without integrity can become destructive.
Therefore, our prayer should not merely be, "Lord, promote me." It should also be, "Lord, prepare me, purify my motives, enlarge my capacity, and place me where I can fulfil Your purpose."
The goal is not simply to rise above others, but to rise into greater usefulness in the hands of God.
Let us consider five important principles for seeking our lifting from God.
*GOD IS THE ULTIMATE SOURCE OF PROMOTION*
Psalm 75:6–7; Daniel 2:21
The Scripture makes it clear that promotion comes from God. He has authority over times, seasons, leadership, and opportunities.
Daniel 2:21 (KJV) says:
"And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings..."
People may be instruments of your advancement, but they are not the source of your destiny. Appreciate those who help you, but never allow human approval to become your foundation.
*GOD CAN LIFT YOU FROM AN UNEXPECTED PLACE*
Genesis 39:21; Genesis 41:39–41
Joseph experienced rejection, slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment. Yet God remained with him.
Genesis 39:21 (KJV) says:
"But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy..."
Eventually, Joseph moved from prison to the palace and became a ruler in Egypt. His story demonstrates that difficult circumstances do not prevent God from working in a person's life.
Your present situation does not necessarily determine your future. Continue to trust God, remain faithful, and develop your abilities wherever you find yourself.
*FAITHFULNESS AND HUMILITY PREPARE YOU FOR LIFTING*
1 Samuel 16:11–13; Psalm 78:70–72
When Samuel came to anoint a king from Jesse's family, David was not initially presented. He w
