🩸 IS SICKLE CELL DISEASE CONTAGIOUS?

30 Days of Awareness, Knowledge, Compassion & Hope.

Hello again ooo, I don come ooo my wonderful Lekeelekee Family! ❤️. How our evening dey go ooh? I trust it's going okay.

Let's begin with an important question:

Can you catch sickle cell disease by hugging someone, sharing food, shaking hands or sitting beside them?

The answer is a BIG NO!

Let's understand why.

🔴 1. THE FACT: SICKLE CELL DISEASE IS INHERITED, NOT CONTAGIOUS.

Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder. It develops when a child inherits certain abnormal haemoglobin gene variants from their biological parents.

This means a person is born with the condition.

It is NOT caused by bacteria, viruses or any infectious organism.

🚫 2. YOU CANNOT CATCH SICKLE CELL DISEASE THROUGH:

❌ Hugging or touching someone.

❌ Sharing food, drinks or eating utensils.

❌ Shaking hands.

❌ Sitting together in a classroom or office.

❌ Living in the same house.

❌ Playing or working together.

❤️ 3. LET'S BREAK THE STIGMA!

People living with sickle cell disease deserve friendship, love, acceptance and equal opportunities.

They should never be isolated, rejected or discriminated against because of their health condition.

Remember, sickle cell disease is not a person's identity. It is a medical condition that deserves understanding and appropriate care.

💡 4. WHAT SHOULD WE DO INSTEAD?

✅ Learn the facts.

✅ Correct misinformation respectfully.

✅ Support affected individuals and families.

✅ Encourage genotype awareness and appropriate medical guidance.
