*SOUND MOTIVES AND GODLY DESIRES ---PART 7B*
DESIRING GOD'S WILL ABOVE ALL
When Your Heart Is Surrendered to God's Purpose
Matthew 26:39 (KJV)
“And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
*INTRODUCTION*
The highest expression of godly desire is not merely wanting God to bless our plans but being willing to follow His will, even when the journey differs from our expectations.
Jesus demonstrated this surrender in Gethsemane. He expressed the anguish before Him yet submitted Himself to the Father's will. His prayer teaches us that surrender does not require pretending we have no personal feelings or desires. It means trusting God above our own preferences.
You can desire marriage, employment, financial provision, ministry growth, or a better future while remaining willing to follow God's direction.
Spiritual maturity is not the absence of personal desires; it is the willingness to bring those desires under God's authority.
*PUT GOD'S WILL ABOVE PERSONAL PREFERENCE*
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
«“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”»
Our preferences are not always wrong, but they must be guided by God's Word.
Sometimes, we become so attached to a particular outcome that we stop considering whether our decisions are wise or godly.
Surrender means remaining open to God's guidance, testing our plans against Scripture, and accepting correction when necessary.
Key Truth: Do not ask only whether something is what you want; ask whether pursuing it honours God.
*VALUE OBEDIENCE MORE THAN IMMEDIATE SUCCESS*
1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV)
«“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”»
Success is not worth the price of disobedience to God.
You may desire a position, opportunity, relationship, or financial breakthrough, but none should require you to abandon your Christian convictions.
Godly character matters in the pursuit as much as the outcome.
Continue working diligently, but refuse dishonest shortcuts. Pursue your ambitions, but do not sacrifice integrity to achieve them.
Key Truth: Never allow the desire to succeed to become stronger than your commitment to obey God.
*LEARN TO TRUST GOD WHEN YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HIS DIRECTION*
Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
«“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”»
There will be seasons when God's direction is not immediately clear. A plan may change, an opportunity may disappear, or an answer may take longer than expected.
These experiences do not automatically mean that your desires were wrong or that God has abandoned you.
Pray for wisdom, seek godly counsel, examine the facts, and take responsible steps. Trust God without assuming that every disappointment is a divine instruction to give up. Key Truth: You do not need to understand everything before you can continue trusting God.
*FIND YOUR FULFILMENT IN CHRIST, NOT ONLY IN WHAT HE PROVIDES*
Philippians 3:8 (KJV)
«“Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.”»
God's blessings are valuable, but they must not become more important to us than our relationship with Him.
We can thank God for provision, celebrate answered prayers, and enjoy legitimate achievements without making them the foundation of our identity.
If a particular opportunity does not come, our relationship with Christ remains precious. If we receive the blessing we have prayed for, we should receive it with gratitude and continue walking faithfully with God.
Key Truth: Seek God's blessings, but treasure the Giver above the gifts.
*LIVE EACH DAY WITH A SURRENDERED HEART*
Psalm 40:8 (KJV)
«“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”»
Surrender is not merely a prayer we pray during difficult moments; it is a daily way of living.
It means choosing honesty when dishonesty seems easier, forgiveness when bitterness feels justified, humility when recognition comes, and patience when progress is slow.
It also means taking responsibility for our families, work, ministry, and personal growth while trusting God with what lies beyond our control.
Key Truth: A surrendered heart seeks to honour God in ordinary decisions as well as major life choices.
*IN CONCLUSION*
LET GOD BE LORD OVER YOUR DESIRES
God does not ask us to live without dreams, plans, or personal aspirations. He invites us to bring them before Him and allow His Word to guide how we pursue them.
Desire good things, but do not make them your god. Work towards meaningful goals, but do not compromise your character. Pray with confidence, but remain humble enough to seek God's wisdom.
When you receive what you have prayed for, be grateful. When the journey becomes difficult,
