*SOUND MOTIVES AND GODLY DESIRES -----PART 7*

WHEN GOD PURIFIES THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART

Becoming the Person God Wants You to Be

Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV)

«“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”»

*INTRODUCTION*

One of the greatest signs of spiritual maturity is the willingness to allow God to examine and transform our hearts.

It is easy to ask God to change our circumstances, open doors, grant success, and answer our prayers. However, we must also be willing to ask Him to change anything within us that does not reflect His character.

God's purpose is not to destroy every personal desire we have. He wants to help us distinguish between healthy aspirations and desires driven by pride, envy, fear, or selfishness.

Sometimes, the greatest work God does is not changing what we have but transforming who we are. The goal is not merely to receive what we desire but to develop a heart that honours God, whatever season we are in.

*INVITE GOD TO SEARCH YOUR HEART*

Jeremiah 17:10 (KJV)

«“I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”»

We do not always understand our own motives. We may believe we are acting out of love when pride or insecurity is also influencing us.

David's prayer in Psalm 139 demonstrates a willingness to be examined by God.

Instead of assuming that every desire is pure or condemning every personal ambition, ask God to reveal what needs correction.

Key Truth: Spiritual growth begins when we become willing to see ourselves honestly before God.

*ALLOW GOD TO CORRECT YOU WITHOUT CONDEMNING YOURSELF*

Psalm 51:10 (KJV)

«“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”»

When God exposes an unhealthy motive, His correction gives us an opportunity to repent and grow.

If you discover envy, pride, bitterness, or an excessive desire for recognition, do not pretend it is absent. Bring it before God and take practical steps towards change.

Conviction should lead us towards repentance and renewed obedience, not endless self-condemnation.

Key Truth: God can reveal what is wrong in your heart because He desires to lead you towards what is right.

*LET GOD TRANSFORM YOUR DESIRES, NOT JUST YOUR BEHAVIOUR*

Ezekiel 36:26 (KJV)

«“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.”»

Lasting change involves more than outward behaviour. God works within us, shaping our attitudes, priorities, and responses.

We may learn to hide jealousy without overcoming it, or appear humble while secretly craving praise. God desires sincerity, not merely a good outward appearance.

As we grow in Christ, we learn to celebrate others, serve without demanding recognition, and pursue success without compromising our convictions.

Key Truth: God desires a transformed heart, not simply improved appearances.

*COOPERATE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT*

Galatians 5:16 (KJV)

«“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”»

We cannot grow in godly character through determination alone. We need the Holy Spirit's help, guidance, and strength.

However, spiritual growth also calls for our cooperation. We must practise obedience, reject destructive habits, study God's Word, and make choices consistent with our faith.

When envy arises, choose gratitude. When pride tempts you, practise humility. When impatience grows, respond with prayer and wisdom.

Key Truth: Depend on the Holy Spirit while deliberately choosing thoughts and actions that honour God.

*MEASURE GROWTH BY FAITHFULNESS, NOT COMPARISON*

Galatians 6:4 (KJV)

“But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”

God's work in your life is not a competition with someone else's journey.

You may still be developing while another person appears to be progressing quickly. That difference does not mean God has forgotten you. Concentrate on your obedience, character, responsibilities, and growth. Learn from others without envying them, and celebrate their progress without despising your own season.

Key Truth: Focus on becoming faithful to God's calling rather than competing for another person's place.

*IN CONCLUSION*

GIVE GOD PERMISSION TO WORK WITHIN YOU

God is interested in more than the opportunities you receive. He is also concerned with the person you are becoming as you pursue them. Do not be afraid to ask Him to examine your heart. If He reveals an unhealthy motive, respond with humility and faith. If He redirects your priorities, follow His wisdom. If growth takes time, remain patient and continue practising obedience.

You do not need to abandon every dream to become spiritual. You need to surrender your dreams to God and pursue them in ways that honour Him.

A purified heart does not necessarily desire fewer things; it learns to de
