STORY: “THE LAST ₦1,000”
A young man once had only ₦1,000 left in his pocket.
He was hungry, tired, and worried about how he would survive the coming days.
As he walked home, he saw an elderly man sitting beside the road, looking weak.
The old man called him.
"My son, please, have you seen anywhere I can get something to eat? I haven't eaten today."
The young man looked at his ₦1,000.
He had planned to use it to buy food for himself.
For a moment, he hesitated.
Then he walked to a nearby food seller, bought a meal, and gave it to the old man.
The old man looked at him with gratitude.
"Thank you, my son. May kindness never be far from you."
The young man smiled and continued home.
That night, he drank water and went to bed hungry.
Several days later, he attended a job interview he had almost given up on.
After the interview, the employer asked him a surprising question.
"What would you do if you had very little but met someone who needed help?"
The young man thought carefully and told the truth about what had happened.
The employer listened quietly.
Then he said, "That old man you helped was my father. He told me about you."
The young man was speechless.
The employer continued, "I'm not offering you this job simply because you helped him. I'm offering it because your actions showed me something about your character, and your qualifications show that you can do the work."
The young man's eyes filled with tears.
He thanked the employer and went home with hope in his heart.
He never forgot the lesson that day taught him.
Moral: Never underestimate the value of kindness. You may never know how far one good deed will travel. But remember, kindness is valuable even when it brings no reward.
