MY FATHER

In Loving Memory of My Father

Who held my hand when I was small,
Who stood beside me through it all,
Whose voice could guide me when I fall?
My Father.

Who worked and struggled through the years,
Who hid his pain behind his fears,
Who gave me strength and dried my tears?
My Father.

Who taught me lessons, right from wrong,
Who showed me how to stand up strong,
Whose name and blood in me live on?
My Father.

And now you sleep beyond my sight,
Beyond my reach, beyond the light,
Yet in my heart, you live outright,
My Father.

The hands that once could hold my own
Now rest beneath the earth alone,
Yet seeds you planted have still grown,
My Father.

And though the world may call you gone,
Your blood lives in me, carrying on.
Your story does not end at dawn,
My Father.

Rest well, dear father, take your rest.
You gave this world your very best.
Though grief now weighs upon my chest,
I honour you, My Father.

Forever your son,
Uche Okwuegbunam
