🇳🇬The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (#FRCN) and the 🇨🇳Chinese Embassy in Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria-China relations through language learning, cultural exchange and digital broadcasting as the Ni Hao China Chinese-language radio programme marked 456 days on air.
The Chinese Embassy’s Cultural Counsellor and Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Yang Jianxing, and the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr Mohammed Bulama, stated this at a ceremony marking the milestone at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja.
Representatives of both sides signed a commemorative T-shirt, which is expected to be displayed at the China Culture Centre and FRCN to mark their media partnership.
“Ni Hao China has introduced a new essential pillar, the people,” Dr Bulama said.
He commended the Chinese Embassy and the China Culture Centre in Nigeria for their partnership with FRCN, acknowledging the contributions of producers, presenters, language instructors and technical personnel to the programme’s success.
Dr Bulama also announced that FRCN was transforming its network studio into an audiovisual facility to expand its digital broadcasting capacity. He expressed optimism that Ni Hao China would benefit from the development.
He said the corporation was already using social media clips, audience quizzes and other digital learning resources to enable listeners to practise and revisit Chinese-language lessons.
“The future of broadcasting lies in the effective integration of traditional radio with digital media,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chinese Embassy’s Cultural Counsellor, Mr Yang Jianxing, called for the programme to expand its content, adopt innovative approaches to audience engagement and encourage greater participation by young Nigerians.
He described Ni Hao China as an important bridge of friendship and mutual understanding since its launch.
Mr Yang said the programme’s next phase should feature more content on Chinese culture, tourism, education, business and everyday life, alongside lessons teaching listeners how to introduce Nigerian traditions and experiences in Chinese.
He explained that a stronger two-way cultural exchange would help both countries develop a deeper appreciation of each other’s heritage and opportunities.
The cultural counsellor also encouraged the organisers to combine traditional radio broadcasting with short videos, social media and physical cultural activities to reach more people, particularly younger audiences.
“We look forward to seeing more young Nigerians take part in Chinese language learning, cultural exchanges and China-Nigeria exchange activities through the programme,” he said.
Mr Yang noted that the anniversary coincided with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
He expressed appreciation to FRCN management and the programme’s production team for sustaining the partnership.
