MY MOTHER-IN-LAW CAME TO LIVE WITH US FOR 2 WEEKS. SHE STAYED FOR 2 YEARS.

When my husband said, "Mama is coming to stay for a little while," I smiled and said okay.

I didn't know "a little while" meant 2 years.

At first, it was sweet. She helped with the baby. She cooked. But slowly, my home stopped feeling like mine.

She would correct how I cooked for my own husband.
She would say, "In our time, we don't allow children to do this."
If I corrected my child, she would overrule me in front of the child.

I started keeping malice. I would stay in the bedroom all day just to avoid her. My husband was in the middle, confused.

One night, my husband met me crying in the kitchen. He said, "My wife, what is it?"

I said, "I love your mother, but I don't feel like a wife in my own house anymore."

He didn't argue. He just listened. The next day, he spoke to his mother - not with anger, but with love and boundaries.

He told her, "Mama, thank you for helping us. But in this house, my wife is the mother. Let's allow her to lead."

That conversation changed everything. My mother-in-law apologized. I apologized too. We set small rules - she handles the kitchen in the morning, I handle the rest. She advises in private, not in front of the kids.

Today, she is my best gist partner. She even defended me at a family meeting last month.

LESSON:
Most family conflicts are not about wickedness, they are about unclear boundaries. Love without boundaries turns to resentment. If you don't speak up with respect, you will speak up one day with anger. Talk early. Talk with love.

Your husband did well by not taking sides but setting boundaries with love. This is how marriage should be. More stories like this please!@FrancisSmiles #LekeeLekee #Viral #Trending #NaijaPride
