I served my country… but who will serve the graduate after NYSC? 🇳🇬💔
Look at this picture.
I went for NYSC with dreams, hope and the belief that after school and national service, I would find my place in the workforce.
Years later, I am still searching for a job.
And I keep asking myself…
Why do graduates spend one full year serving the nation, but after NYSC, there isn't a clear pathway into employment?
Why can't there be stronger systems that connect qualified graduates directly to available jobs in their fields?
Why are there so many graduates with degrees, skills and the willingness to work, yet so few transparent opportunities?
Too often, people feel that “man know man” is the only way to get throuh the door.
Some graduates are creating content.
Some are driving Keke and Okada.
Some are frying Akara and plantain.
Some are trading, farming or doing whatever honest work they can find to survive.
And there is absolutely nothing shameful about honest work.
The painful part is when someone spends years studying, completes NYSC, is ready to work… and still cannot find an opportunity in the field they trained for.
This is bigger than my story.
It is the reality of many Nigerian graduates. 🇳🇬
So let me ask:
What should come after NYSC — another struggle to find a job, or a real pathway into employment?
What do you think? 👇
And If you’re also a graduate who has been searching for a job for years, how long have you been waiting? Tell me your story in the comments. 👇🏽🇳🇬
