Soludo acted differently in church today, recognising Peter Obi and ushering him to the front seat. I found that gesture encouraging—not merely as a matter of protocol, but as a reminder that beneath political differences, there can still be room for brotherhood.

How I wish this spirit could grow beyond moments like this. Soludo and Obi are brothers in many respects, and neither political competition nor differing ambitions should make them permanent adversaries.

The reaction of the congregation when Obi’s name was mentioned was also striking. Perhaps it carries a message worth reflecting upon: sometimes, there is more to be gained in embracing one another as brothers and friends than in allowing political differences to define relationships.

Politics will come and go. Positions will change. Elections will pass. But the bonds of brotherhood, friendship and community can outlive all of them.

May we learn to disagree without becoming enemies, compete without becoming bitter, and lead without forgetting that we are first human beings and brothers.
