Now let's talk about some Questions young people are afraid to ask and also talk about how to answer them
QUESTION 1
“Why is my body changing?”
Why they may be asking
Before a child will ask a question like this, that child may have noticed changes in their height, body shape, skin, hair, breasts, genitals, voice, emotions or even body odour. They may also be comparing themselves with friends and wondering whether something is wrong with them.
Sometimes the question isn't really about the body changes
It may be:
“Am I normal?”
How do you answer this question
You could say:
“Your body is changing because you're growing up. As children get older, their bodies gradually go through a stage called puberty. During puberty, your body begins developing into a more mature body. These changes don't happen to everyone at exactly the same age or in exactly the same way, so try not to compare yourself with your friends.”
Then reassure them:
“If you ever notice something about your body that worries you, you can always tell me. You won't get into trouble for asking me questions about your body.” Help your child to feel confident in their own body, let them understand the uniqueness of every individual this will help them feel at ease when they notice changes in their friends that is yet to happen in their own body e.g breast development
Don't shut the conversation down; The worst thing you can do is to shut your child up,if you don't answer them, they will look for answers elsewhere.
The fact that the have already asked that question means it's already in the mind.
