BLOOD TRANSFUSION: WHY WOULD SOMEONE NEED ANOTHER PERSON'S BLOOD? 🩸
Have you ever wondered why a doctor would say, “This person needs blood”?
A blood transfusion may be needed when the body has lost too much blood or cannot produce or maintain enough healthy blood cells.
Here are some common situations:
🩸 Severe blood loss
After a serious accident, major injury, or heavy bleeding, someone may lose more blood than their body can replace quickly.
🩸 Severe anaemia
When the red blood cell level becomes dangerously low, the body may not get enough oxygen. In some severe cases, a transfusion may be needed.
🩸 Surgery
Some operations can involve significant blood loss. Blood may be given to replace what was lost when necessary.
🩸 Childbirth complications
Severe bleeding during or after childbirth can cause rapid blood loss and may require an urgent transfusion.
🩸 Certain diseases or treatments
Some conditions affect the body's ability to make healthy blood cells. Certain cancer treatments, blood disorders, and other illnesses can sometimes make transfusions necessary.
And no, receiving blood doesn't mean “the person has no blood left.” 😂
Sometimes, the goal is simply to replace what has been lost or provide the blood component the body urgently needs.
Blood can literally be the difference between a critical situation and recovery.
Have you ever wondered what actually happens before donated blood is given to a patient?
