I’m glad Manchester United never went down the Saudi ownership route yet.

Look at what’s happening with Manchester City now. Whatever happens on the pitch, I don’t want my club to be caught up in controversies that take away from the football.

That doesn’t mean I’m defending the Glazers or Ratcliffe. Far from it. United deserves far better leadership than them.

But there’s a difference between wanting your club to spend big and wanting success at any cost.

Manchester United has too much history and too much meaning to be dragged into endless scandals.

Give me success. But let’s achieve it without losing what makes this club special.
