“Maybe.”

He looked at me.

“Or maybe I just got used to having you around.”

I didn’t know what to say.

Because suddenly, the joke wasn’t funny anymore.

I looked up at him.

“And what about Tobi?”

Kayode sighed.

“I’ve told you before. You deserve better than that relationship.”

“And Maria?”

He laughed. “Maria and I have been over in everything except the fact that we haven’t officially said it.”

I smiled. “So both of us are just confused.”

“Apparently.”

We both laughed.

Then he reached for my hand.

“You know what’s funny?” He asked.

“What?”

“We came here pretending to be together.”

I nodded. “And now?”

He smiled. “Now I’m wondering why we ever had to pretend.”

I looked at him. “Kayode…”

He squeezed my hand. “I’m not asking you to answer me tonight.”

I smiled. “Good.”

“Why?” He asked.

“Because I don’t even know what answer my brain is giving me.”

We stood there quietly for a while.

Then I heard his mum shouting from inside,

“Kayode! Fisayo! Come and take pictures!”

I laughed. “Your mother has found us.”

Kayode sighed. “She has been waiting for this moment since I was born.”

We started walking back inside.

Then he stopped me. “Fisayo?”

“Hmm?”

He smiled. “Don’t overthink it.”

I laughed.

“Too late.”

We went back inside and his mum immediately pulled us together.

“Stand close!”

“Smile!”

“Kayode, put your hand around her na!”

His dad shouted from behind the camera,

“Abeg, make them kiss again!”

Then my phone started ringing… it was Tobi!
