Kate Murray (photographer): This is a photo of a woman who had asked her to photograph her during the birth of her first child. But then something tragic happened: In the middle of her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. She had to undergo a mastectomy and chemotherapy—all while carrying her child.

In her 36th week of pregnancy, doctors induced labor to treat her cancer and so she could see her son grow up. When the newborn latched onto Kate's only breast, the emotion in the room was overwhelming.
