The Wicked Stepmother

Once upon a time, in a small village surrounded by green hills, there lived a kind-hearted girl named Amara. She lived with her father, Mr. Okoro, and her stepmother, Madam Ngozi.

Amara’s mother had died when she was very young. Her father loved her dearly, but after he remarried, everything changed.

Madam Ngozi was jealous of Amara because she reminded her husband of his first wife. Whenever Amara smiled, her stepmother became angry. Whenever her father praised her, Madam Ngozi would find something to complain about.

“You are lazy!” she shouted one morning, even though Amara had already swept the compound, washed the dishes, and fetched water.

Amara lowered her head. “I am sorry, Mama.”

“Sorry for what? Go to the river and bring water. Then cook breakfast. And don't expect anyone to thank you.”

Amara obeyed.

Days turned into months, and the cruel treatment continued. Madam Ngozi gave her the hardest chores while her own daughter, Chika, spent her days playing and wearing beautiful clothes.
