When a religious leader endorses a politician, who is really being represented?

As Nigeria heads towards 2027, religious endorsements and meetings with clerics are raising questions about faith, influence voters’ freedom to choose.

Behind each declaration of support is a question worth asking: does it reflect the congregation’s wishes, the organisation’s position or the leader’s personal preference? And when an endorsement is disputed, whose account should voters trust?
