The Big Belly Festival of Ethiopia 🇪🇹

In Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, the Bodi tribe celebrates the Ka’el Festival – a New Year tradition where a big belly means beauty, wealth, and honour.

Unmarried men spend months (like 6months or so) drinking cow’s milk and blood to gain weight. On festival day, they dance with bodies painted in ash and clay while the community cheers.

The man with the most impressive body becomes the champion, bringing pride to his family.

For the Bodi people, a big belly is more than size, it’s a symbol of tradition, culture, and belonging. 💃🕺
