NVIDIA is building something the AI industry increasingly needs: a cage for autonomous AI agents.

Its new OpenShell software is designed to sandbox agents and control what they can access—files, networks, credentials and other system resources.

Why does this matter?

Because telling an increasingly capable AI “don't cross this boundary” isn't the same as technically preventing it from crossing one.

An agent with tools and permissions can make thousands of decisions at machine speed. One mistake—or one unexpected instruction—can have consequences far beyond the original task.

The emerging principle is simple:

Don't trust the AI to enforce its own limits. Enforce the limits around the AI.

As agents move from answering questions to taking real-world actions, containment may become just as important as intelligence.
