EPISODE 2 — WHY DID GOD PUT MAN ON EARTH?

In Episode 1, we established that the Kingdom of God is the reign and rule of God, and Jesus Christ is the King.

Now, let us go one step deeper:

Why did God put man on earth?

If God is King and His throne is in heaven, why did He create the earth and then place man here?

Genesis 1:26 gives us an important answer:

Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…

God created man in His image and gave him dominion over the earth.

But man did not become an independent king.

God remained the King. Man received delegated authority.

This is an important Kingdom principle.

In a kingdom, representatives are expected to operate according to the authority, values and interests of the king who sent them.

In the same way, God created man to represent His rule and His will on the earth.

God is the King.
Heaven is His throne.
Earth is His creation.
Man was created to represent God's rule on the earth.

This is why the Garden of Eden is so important.

God placed Adam in the garden, gave him responsibility, gave him instructions, and expected him to operate according to God's Word.

Adam was not supposed to create his own system of government. He was supposed to live under the authority of the King and exercise the authority the King had given him.

Then came the fall.

Adam's disobedience was more than eating a forbidden fruit. It was rebellion against the King and His command.

Humanity's relationship with God was broken, and sin affected the authority and responsibility God had entrusted to man.

And now we begin to understand the mission of Jesus.

Jesus did not come merely to establish another religion.

His message was:

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Mark 1:15

Jesus came announcing the Kingdom.
The King had come.

Through Christ, God was bringing humanity back into relationship with Himself and restoring His purpose for mankind.

So now we must ask:

What exactly was lost in Eden, and what did Jesus come to restore?
