Subject: Nigerians Need Visible Results, Accountability, and Measurable Progress
Your Excellencies President Tinubu, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and Mr. Arjun Jain, we recently read reports regarding the proposed LEAP initiative, under which the Federal Government of Nigeria and UNHCR aim to mobilize $10 billion in private investment over the next five years to help displacement-affected communities and create sustainable livelihoods.
While many Nigerians welcome any genuine effort to rebuild communities, create jobs, and support internally displaced persons, an important question remains:
Why now? Why were similar large-scale interventions not effectively implemented years ago?
240 million Nigerians have heard promises, roadmaps, reforms, and slogans from successive governments for decades. Unfortunately, millions of Nigerians continue to face insecurity, unemployment, poor infrastructure, inadequate electricity, and limited economic opportunities.
For 240 million Nigerians trust cannot be restored through announcements alone. Trust will return only when Nigerians can see measurable and visible results, including:
Safe communities where farmers can return to their land without fear.
A significant reduction in terrorism, banditry, and violent insecurity.
Children attending school safely in every state.
Improved electricity supply that supports homes and businesses.
Reliable and affordable internet access that supports education and economic growth.
Repaired and maintained roads across the 36 states and 774 local government areas.
Job creation programs that lead to real employment opportunities.
Increased agricultural production that helps Nigeria achieve greater food security and reduce dependence on imports.
Transparent reporting showing how public funds and private investments are being utilized.
Respectfully if the LEAP initiative is to succeed, many Nigerians would like to see specific targets, timelines, public progress reports, and independent monitoring so that citizens can evaluate outcomes based on facts rather than political statements.
Nigeria's more than 240 million people deserve evidence of progress that can be seen in communities, farms, schools, hospitals, roads, and businesses.
We respectfully demand your offices to publish clear implementation plans, measurable milestones, and regular public updates so that Nigerians can follow progress and hold leaders accountable.
The true measure of success will not be the size of investment announcements but the improvement in the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians.
