Episode 10 — She Knows Everything

Amara couldn't take her eyes off the photograph.
“My mother?”
Sophia nodded slowly.
“Your mother was there with our fathers.”
Daniel looked at Amara. “Maybe she can explain everything.”
Amara shook her head.
“My mother has never mentioned any of this.”
“Then ask her,” Sophia said.
That evening, Amara went home.
Her mother was in the kitchen when Amara walked in.
“Mummy, I need to ask you something.”
Her mother turned around.
“About what?”
Amara placed the photograph on the table.
The moment her mother saw it, the smile disappeared from her face.
“You found this?”
Amara's heart sank.
“You know about it?”
Her mother sat down slowly.
“Yes.”
“Then why have you never told me?”
Her mother looked away.
“Because your father begged me not to.”
“Not to tell me what?”
Before she could answer, someone knocked on the door.
Daniel had arrived.
Amara opened it, and he immediately noticed her mother's expression.
“What happened?”
Her mother looked at Daniel.
Then at Amara.
Finally, she whispered,
“Your fathers were not investigating the same thing.”
Daniel frowned.
“What do you mean?”
“They were investigating each other.”
Silence filled the room.
Amara stared at her.
“Why?”
Her mother reached into a drawer and pulled out a small envelope.
“I kept this because I knew one day you would find that photograph.”
She handed it to Amara.
Inside was a single handwritten letter.
Amara opened it.
The first sentence made her blood run cold.
“If you are reading this, then they have finally found you.”
Daniel stepped closer.
“Who wrote it?”
Amara looked at the signature.
Her eyes widened.
“It’s from my father.”
Then her phone suddenly buzzed.
Unknown number.
A message appeared:
“Don't open the second envelope.”
Amara slowly looked at the table.
There was another envelope sitting beside her mother's hand.
And this one had Daniel's name written across it.
