IF YOUR FLIGHT IS DELAYED FOR 3 HOURS IN NIGERIA, DON'T SHOUT AT THE AIR HOSTESS. DO THIS INSTEAD:
Yesterday I watched passengers fight at Lagos Airport because their flight was delayed for 6 hours. They shouted, they cursed, they went home with nothing.
You don't have to go home with nothing. The law is on your side.
Under NCAA Regulations Part 19, if your flight is delayed:
1. 2 HOURS DELAY: Airline MUST give you refreshment, free calls/emails.
2. 3 HOURS DELAY: You can demand REFUND of your ticket or REBOOKING to next available flight. Your choice, not theirs.
3. OVERNIGHT DELAY: They MUST give you hotel + transport + feeding. It's not a privilege, it's your right.
4. LUGGAGE LOST OR DELAYED? Under Montreal Convention, they owe you up to ∼$1,500. Most Nigerians just say "God will provide".
5. YOU CAN SUE: Takeoff, landing, turbulence injury - airline is liable.
WHAT TO DO:
- Don't fight. Ask for their "Passenger Rights Sheet"
- Take video/picture of departure board
- Keep your boarding pass
- Write to NCAA Consumer Protection Directorate: cpd@ncaa.gov.ng
The reason airlines misbehave in Nigeria is because we don't know our rights.
Share this to save someone stranded at the airport today.
Have you ever been delayed? What did the airline do for you?
