Please hide my identity because I am not cómfortable shàring this story with anyone who knows me.
I dated my husband for eight months before he prôposed to me, and shortly after that, we got married.
He has only two siblings: an elder brother and a younger sister. His elder brother was a very wealthy man, and honestly, it was through his wealth and generôsity that almost everyone in the family was able to live comfórtably, including my husband.
All the siblings lived in the same state but in different cities. Their only sister was still in the university, while my husband and I lived in another city, away from his elder brother and his family.
At that time, his elder brother was married with four children.
I had only been living with my husband for about four weeks when something stránge happened.
One night, his elder brother suddenly visited us very late.
I remember being surprised because it was already very late, but I welcomed him. Shortly after he arrived, he and my husband left the house together.
They didn't tell me where they were going.
They stayed out for a very long time.
When they finally returned, both of them looked extrémely disturbed. They were unusually quiet, and I could tell something serious had happened.
I asked my husband what was wrong, but he simply told me that everything was fine.
I didn't push him.
A few days later, however, I overheard him having a conversation on the phone with his elder brother.
From what I heard, my husband was trying to discourage his brother from carrying out a DNA test on his children.
I was sh0cked.
I didn't understand what was happening.
After the call ended, my husband realized that I had overheard part of the conversation.
That was when he finally explained something to me.
He told me that his elder brother had discovered that his wife was chéàting on him.
Apparently, the situation became even more suspicious because of a message his brother had received.
Part of the message said:
**"How are my children?"**
The message came from a fore!gn number.
His brother tried calling the number, but it never rang.
He became susp!cious that the four children he had been ra!sing might not actually be his biol0gical children.
That was why he was considering doing a DNA test.
My husband told me that he was trying to calm his brother down because he didn't want the situation to destr0y the family.
I told my husband that I didn't think he should involve himself too much in the matter.
I even wárned him.
I told him that his brother and his wife might eventually reconc!le, and if that happened, they could turn around and use him to settle their mar!tal pr0blems.
I didn't know that those words would soon become !rrelevant.
Because two days later, everything changed.
His elder brother was suddenly hosp!tal!zed.
According to his sales girls, he had complained of st0mach pa!n. Later, he coughed up bl00d.
Before the end of that same day, he d!ed.
Just like that.
A healthy, wealthy man who had been alive only days earlier was suddenly gone.
I was completely sh0cked.
What made everything even more d!sturbing was that he had planned to go to the village and report his wife over the weekend.
He never made it there.
My husband took respons!bility for most of the burial arrangements and financed the bur!al of his elder brother.
At that point, I thought the worst was over.
I was wrong.
After the bur!al, I sûffered a terr!ble m!scarriage.
It was so bád that I almost l0st my life.
I spent months in the hospital recovering.
During that per!od, another sh0cking thing happened.
I was po!soned.
I survïved, but my life was never the same again.
After I finally recovered, I thought my husband would be the one person I could depend on.
Instead, he gave me the bíggest sh0ck of my life.
He told me that he had decided to marry his late brother's wife.
At first, I thought he was j0king.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
His brother's w!dow was still m0urning him.
According to our trad!tion, she couldn't even marry until after one year.
His parents strongly 0pposed the árrangement and refused to partic!pate in it.
But my husband didn't care.
He left me in the village and returned to Lagos with his late brother's wife and her children.
And they moved straight into his late brother's mansion.
I was dévsstated.
I couldn't understand how the man I had married could ábandon me like that and move into his déàd brother's house with his brother's w!dow.
But I still didn't give up immediately.
I eventually found my way back to Lagos because I wanted to f!ght for my marr!age.
I confrônted my husband.
His response bróke whatever was left of my héárt.
He told me point blank
That was when I knew I had l0st him.
I had already surv!ved a terr!ble m!scarriage.
I had spent months in the hospital.
I had been po!soned.
And now the same man I thought would protect me was asking me to accept another woman as his wife — his own late brother's wife.
Pt 2 in my next post.
