MAY MY FOCUS BE ALWAYS ON YOU, LORD

Proverbs 4:23-27
[23]Above all else, guard your heart,
    for everything you do flows from it.
[24]Keep your mouth free of perversity;
    keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
[25]Let your eyes look straight ahead;
    fix your gaze directly before you.
[26]Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
    and be steadfast in all your ways.
[27]Do not turn to the right or the left;
    keep your foot from evil.

MESSAGE
If you want to stay on the road to eternal life, keep your mind, your heart, and your eyes on the prize. Paul spoke a lot about staying the course. This proverb talks about this as well. Do you feel as though we read the same messages about how we should behave over and over again? I do. But the reality is that God keeps giving us the same message because we don't pay enough attention and need to keep hearing it. Don't lie, don't boast, use bad language, insult anyone, etc. Keep your feet on the straight and narrow path that leads to the eternal kingdom. Listen to the Word of God by reading the Bible and pay attention to the commandments and the command of Jesus to love. If we are working for justice and helping the poor, being kind to one another and forgiving one another, then we are doing what we are supposed to do. If our steps lead us to the left or the right of the path, then we need to change course and redirect our feet and get back on the path. What is the path that we need to follow? How do we know that we're doing the right thing? If we're not doing any harm, then we're at least beginning. But more than that, we need to be doing something to further the mission. Do our friends know about our love of God? Are we involved in community activities that work to help the poor or promote justice? It's not enough to avoid doing wrong; we need to be doing good. If the apostles had just avoided sin, we wouldn't know about Jesus. It is only because they went out and preached the Good News that we know what Jesus did for us. With words or example, following Jesus means being a witness to our faith.

PRAYER
Loving God, help us to move out of
our comfort zone so that we can
be good witnesses of your love for
us. Keep us on the narrow way.
Amen.
