Did Jesus go to the cross to bear our sicknesses or poverty?

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

‘Finished’ is where you have the word accomplished or where an obligation has been met. There should be a preceded commitment made or debt owed. He is not saying sickness / poverty is finished. What is the ‘it’ that was finished? Jesus did not pay for our sins on the cross neither did he do everything on the cross.

Luke 24:25Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Vs 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? Vs 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

'All things'.

When he said, “It is finished,” one of the things (events, prophecies) that were written was accomplished.

Acts 13:29And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.

The events that led to his death was what was fulfilled in the text above.

1st Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

There is an assumption that Jesus bore our sins on the physical body.

If you read all of Paul's letters, he didn't make a distinction in the constitution of Jesus' body when it comes to the offering for sin.

The word 'body' does not always mean physical body. In Romans 6:6, '…Body of sin' is not physical body. Because when he talks about physical body later, he said mortal body.

In Colossians 2:9, 'Bodily' is not physical there. Referring to everything that involves the person.

1st Peter 2:24refers to the fact that Jesus bore our sins in his full capacity. 'Self' is like a tautological usage.

Hebrews 10:10 clarifies that the 'Offering of the body of Jesus Christ' doesn't mean Jesus' physical body. So, we will always interpret in the context used.

If we take Isaiah 53:4 and translate it into the originals, it is going to sound as Matthew 8:17 - 'himself'.

So the word 'body' is the word 'self'. What Peter was saying is that he did it himself.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Vs 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Vs 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Does this verse mean that Jesus took our sickness and disease?

Let's see its usage in the four gospels; John 1:29, Matthew 26:28, Luke 24:47, John 20:22- He has paid for sins.

When the apostles preached the gospel: Acts 2:38, Acts 5:31, Acts 10:43- It was consistently preached that Jesus' sacrifice is for sins.

References: Romans 4:25, Romans 5:12, Ephesians 1:7, Galatians 1:4, Colossians 1:14- his sacrifice; forgiveness of sins.

8:11-12
The issue of taking away sin is that God now relates with us in fellowship. The sacrifice is so that God will have a perfect relationship with imperfect men.

1st Peter 2:24, 1st Peter 3:18- He suffered once for sins.

In the interpretation of Isaiah 53, the epistles pen down sin(s) as the focal point of Jesus' sacrifice.
