God gives the gift… but you have to develop it.
“Neglect not the gift that is in thee…”
— 1 Timothy 4:14
And again:
“Stir up the gift of God, which is in thee…”
— 2 Timothy 1:6
Paul told Timothy: “Don’t neglect the gift that’s in you.” Then he said it again: “Stir up the gift of God which is in you.”
Listen.
That means a gift can be real and still be undeveloped. Anointing is not an excuse for lack of preparation.
David was anointed to be king — but he still had to learn how to fight.
Joseph had a prophetic dream — but he still had to grow administrative wisdom in Egypt.
Daniel had spiritual excellence — but he also had knowledge, skill, and understanding. God gave them wisdom, yet they still had to learn.
Excellence is stewardship. When the master in Matthew 25 said “Well done,” he didn’t celebrate “well prayed” or “well intended.” He celebrated “well done.” God cares about what you do with what He gave you.
If He gave you a voice — develop it.
If He gave you a mind — educate it.
If He gave you an opportunity — maximize it.
If He gave you a ministry or resources — steward them.
Grace doesn’t cancel the need for excellence. Grace gives you the power to pursue it.
Even Jesus grew. Luke 2:52 says He increased in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man. Spiritual growth. Intellectual growth. Physical growth. Relational growth. All of it mattered.
Your destiny deserves your preparation. Your gift can open doors and bring you before great people… but you have to be ready when the door opens. Don’t pray for the room and then walk in unprepared.
Joseph didn’t start learning administration the day Pharaoh called him.
David didn’t learn courage the day Goliath showed up.
Daniel didn’t begin developing excellence after he entered Babylon.
Preparation happens in the hidden places — long before the opportunity appears in public.
So stir up the gift. Develop it. Grow in the Spirit and in skill.
Your preparation is part of your worship.
