*SEED SOWING*

*2CORINTHIANS 9:6*
*But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. (KJV)*

The error of attaching money or financial prosperity to every scripture with words such as blessings, rich, prosper etc. by materialistic gospel preachers. We also explained another error of putting conditions on God’s goodness. They preach that God can only be good to you when you are good to God. They go to the extent of teaching that unless you give to God, he will not give to you. We explained the common bible text in Luke 6:38 that is often used during giving or offering time. Give and it shall be given unto you is not about giving money for God to multiply it back to you. Reading in context, it was comparing the character of God and the character of men as prevailing at that time under the law. Using that text to teach giving is defamation of God’s character. We don’t give to God to get more in return.

There is another teaching or practice in some churches called “seed sowing”. They teach that if you want God to do something significant for you, you must sow a seed of money. Those who need the fruit of the womb, job, marriage, deliverance from trouble and other needs are asked to sow a seed of money for God to answer their prayers. They most times use our opening text to teach such errors. They say that if you sow, you reap; the more you sow, the bountiful or plenty shall be what you reap. Take note, any teaching that tells you to give money to God as a seed for him to do something for you is fraud and defamation of God’s character. God does not require our giving to do anything for us. Our opening text must be read in context to help us understand what Apostle Paul was saying.

From verse 1 of our opening text, Apostle Paul was discussing ministering or service to the saints. He was talking about the attitude of our service or giving to meet the needs of the saints. Sowing sparingly and bountifully is a figure of speech describing the attitude of serving or giving to the brethren. Reaping sparingly or bountifully is also a figure of speech describing the result of our cheerful service or giving. The fruit of our cheerful service or giving is not getting more money but meeting the needs of brethren and resulting in thanksgiving unto God. All grace abounding unto you is about the grace of cheerfulness in giving not getting more money in return. We shall also eternally be rewarded for every service done in Christ, including giving, at the judgment seat of Christ. The Passage contextually is not about sowing money to get more money in return or getting God to give you a breakthrough.

*I give cheerfully to meet the needs of brethren but not to get a breakthrough.*
