I met Daniel in Port Harcourt when I least expected it.
We started with simple conversations, evening walks around town, and those long midnight calls where neither of us wanted to say goodbye.
He loved me deeply.
I knew it.
But I had a girlfriend who never liked him.
She kept telling me, “Daniel is not the man for you. He will hurt you.”
At first, I ignored her.
Then she started planting doubts in my mind.
One evening, she showed me a message and claimed Daniel had been seeing another girl.
I confronted him.
He denied everything.
But I trusted my girlfriend more than I trusted the man I loved.
So I ended the relationship.
Daniel begged me to reconsider.
I refused.
He left Port Harcourt a few months later.
Two years passed.
One afternoon, I accidentally met him at a supermarket.
He was married.
He looked at me, smiled sadly and said,
“I waited for you longer than you will ever know.”
I couldn't speak.
Then I asked the question that had been haunting me.
“Was that message really from another girl?”
He shook his head.
“No. Your girlfriend created it.”
My heart sank.
I immediately called my girlfriend.
She answered.
I asked her why.
She was silent for a few seconds.
Then she said:
“Because I loved you too.”
That was the moment I realized I hadn't lost Daniel because he stopped loving me.
I lost him because someone else wanted my love for herself.
And by the time I discovered the truth...
it was already too late. 💔
