80% of the time, if you hear what people say behind your back, you won't have the mind to talk to them ever again—including those you consider friends and even a few family members.

One time, I was dating a guy—a very nice guy, I must say.

Since he and my aunt lived in the same state, I decided to visit him when I went to stay with my aunt for a while. I had told my aunt about him before I went to see him, and she asked me for his number. I just assumed it was for security reasons.

My aunt eventually called him twice. The first time she called, he told me about it, but I thought nothing of it. Then she called him again, and by then, it made him a bit uncomfortable because our relationship was already bearing the strain of long distance, and communication between us was almost non-existent.

One day, I called my aunt, and after speaking with her, I needed to clean my hands before ending the call, so I delayed a bit.

Then I heard her telling her daughter that she had spoken with my man.

God!

If you had heard how condescending she sounded. The way she spoke about his village...

I went blank for a moment, but I didn't want to listen any further because, well, it was family gossip. If you come from a close-knit family, you will know that it is the one place where you can freely gossip without even trying to be modest about it. 😂

The universe decided to play an even greater joke on them.

That particular daughter eventually got married to someone from the same village she had spoken about with such disdain.

For whatever it's worth, I don't hold it against my aunt because, at the end of the day, it was FAMILY GOSSIP. 😂
