I have sampled the entirety of life's delights, yet I have discovered nothing more exquisite than good health. I have endured the full measure of its bitterness, yet I have found nothing more acrid than a state of dependency upon the benevolence of others. I have borne the physical weight of iron and stone, yet no burden proves heavier than the obligation of debt.

From these observations, I have concluded that human existence is governed by merely two conditions: a season of prosperity and a season of adversity. Therefore, when fortune favors you, exercise prudence rather than recklessness; and when adversity prevails, cultivate patience. For both circumstances are transient and shall inevitably pass.

If you are unable to serve as a bridge to unite individuals, do not become a barrier that divides them. If you cannot be a light to illuminate the virtuous endeavors of others, do not become the darkness that obscures their efforts. If you cannot be the water that nurtures another's harvest, do not be the blight that destroys it. If you cannot act as a remedy that sustains life, do not become a pathogen that extinguishes it. If you lack the capacity to author another's joy, endeavor at least to erase their sorrow.

Ultimately, we are inextricably bound to serve as one another's guardians.
