“My husband’s cousin went to Mbaise last weekend to pay his wife’s bride price.
This man had already paid ₦2 million and settled everything on the original list—from page 1 to page 6. Everybody thought the matter was settled.
Only for them to bring out another list and say there was still ₦300,000 to pay.
He explained that he didn’t budget for the extra money. He begged them that once he got back to Warri, he would hustle and send it.
From 2pm to 4pm, people begged the kinsmen. They refused to listen.
Their argument was simple: if he couldn’t pay the ₦300,000 that day, he should go home.
Nobody even considered the fact that their sister had already had three children with this man.
After hours of begging, my husband’s cousin walked up to his bride and said:
“As you see me so, na go I dey. If I enter that bus and you no follow me, marriage don end. I no dey come back here.”
As the bride saw him heading towards his vehicle, she stood up and followed him.
The kinsmen suddenly realised that this thing was no longer funny.
They quickly called them back inside and said he could pay the ₦300,000 later.
But by then, my husband’s cousin was already angry.
He told them, “I no dey pay any extra money. Either we continue this marriage with the original list we agreed on, or the marriage ends here today.”
The bride was already on her knees begging her people.
Eventually, the kinsmen had no choice but to agree.
Anyway, we don carry our wife come back house”
