I spent sometime today seeing the Opening Gong Ceremony for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO, and beyond the numbers, a few conversations changed the way I looked at the offer.

One question from the audience was:

“If people are now using CNG, why should we be interested in Dangote Refinery?”

The answer was simple: the refinery is much bigger than petrol. It also produces diesel, aviation fuel, LPG, polypropylene, and other petroleum products. We were told that its aviation fuel is already in such high demand for export that only the remaining supply is kept for use in Nigeria.

Another statement that stayed with me was:

“I don’t know of any wealthy man who truly wants to create wealth and ends up cheating the poor.”-Alhaji Dangote.

Offer highlights

* Offer opens: 14 September 2026
* Offer closes: 13 October 2026
* Listing: After the offer closes, the shares will be listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).
* Offer price: ₦525 per share
* Total shares on offer: 4.1 billion ordinary shares
* Total offer value: ₦2.15 trillion
* Minimum investment: 10 shares = ₦5,250
* You can subscribe through major banks, Cowrywise, or any licensed stockbroker.

A key point from the presentation was that once the offer is fully subscribed, new investors may have to wait until the shares are officially listed on the NGX before buying them on the secondary market.

One important clarification: no dividend has been determined yet. This was the Opening Gong Ceremony, not the AGM where dividends are declared.

A truly insightful session on wealth creation, ownership, and Nigeria’s capital market.
