A liver transplant may not be the only future option.
MIT researchers are developing injectable “mini livers” made from liver cells that could work alongside a damaged liver instead of replacing it.
In mice, the tiny liver grafts survived and produced important liver proteins for at least 8 weeks.
The idea is simple but remarkable: add working liver tissue instead of replacing the entire organ.
It’s still experimental and has not been tested as a treatment in humans.
Could tiny injectable livers become a new way to support failing organs?
