CAMPAIGN PROMISES: African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has unveiled an ambitious agenda for Nigeria if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Sowore promised to introduce a N500,000 monthly living minimum wage, provide 24-hour electricity and make education free and accessible at all levels.

He also pledged to build one million public mixed-income homes, reform tenancy laws to reduce advance rent payments, improve healthcare, industrialise the economy and expand agricultural production and processing.

“We are proposing a ₦500,000 monthly living minimum wage because Nigerian workers cannot continue receiving starvation wages while senators, governors and political appointees consume millions every month,” he said.

Sowore also promised to reform the security system, improve the welfare of security personnel and deploy modern technology, including drones and advanced intelligence systems, to tackle insecurity.

On corruption, he said his administration would “wage an uncompromising war against corruption” and recover public resources allegedly stolen by political officeholders.

The AAC candidate said the party would run a “people funded campaign” rather than depend on wealthy individuals or political patrons.

Sowore, who is among the 18 presidential candidates announced by INEC for the 2027 election, said Nigerians were “more ready than ever” for a leftist government.

“Our socialism is practical,” he said, arguing that Nigeria’s wealth should translate into better living conditions, including education, healthcare, housing, electricity, living wages and social protection.

Despite his previous presidential runs, Sowore said the AAC’s chances in 2027 had “never been better,” citing the party’s independence from political godfathers and wealthy patrons.
