🇪🇹 ETHIOPIA WELCOMES 2019 AS THE COUNTRY CELEBRATES ITS NEW YEAR

While much of the world is in 2026, Ethiopia has entered 2019 according to its traditional calendar.

Ethiopia celebrated Enkutatash — its New Year — on September 11, marking the beginning of the year 2019 in the Ethiopian calendar.

But why the difference?

🇪🇹 Ethiopia uses a unique calendar with 13 months.
📅 12 months have 30 days each.
➕ The 13th month, Pagume, has 5 days in a normal year and 6 in a leap year.

The Ethiopian calendar is approximately 7–8 years behind the Gregorian calendar because the two systems use different calculations for the dating of the birth/Annunciation of Jesus Christ.

So, while the Gregorian calendar says 2026, Ethiopia has just welcomed 2019. 🇪🇹🎉
