IF VALUE EDUCATION DOES NOT CONCERN US TODAY, WE MAY ALL PAY FOR IT TOMORROW.

When we say that values education is not our concern, we must also be prepared to live with the consequences of the actions and inactions of the people we encounter every day.

A talented person who lacks honesty and integrity can use their talent to cause harm.

A leader who lacks empathy and responsibility can make decisions that affect the lives and wellbeing of many.

A child who has not learned respect, discipline and accountability may grow into an adult who struggles to respect people, rules and society.

An employee who does not value honesty, responsibility and commitment can undermine an organisation, regardless of how qualified or talented they may be.

The truth is, values do not affect only the person who possesses—or lacks—them. Our values eventually affect everyone around us.

Yes, many people ahead of us may have failed in demonstrating the values we need as a society.

But the question is:

Should we now allow those coming behind us to fail in the same way?

If we do nothing, we risk creating a cycle where one generation passes its weaknesses to the next.

We cannot continue to complain about dishonesty, irresponsibility, indiscipline, corruption, disrespect and lack of empathy while doing little to intentionally shape the character of the next generation.

Value education is not just about raising good children. It is about building responsible adults, trustworthy professionals, compassionate leaders and responsible citizens.

If we want a better society tomorrow, we must begin with the values we teach, model, nurture and reinforce today.

The cycle must be broken somewhere.
Let it begin with us.
