September 11 — A Day of Remembrance, Service, Courage and Peace.
Today marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. Nearly 3,000 people were killed when hijacked aircraft struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania.
Memorial ceremonies, moments of silence, victim-name readings, and tributes are taking place across the United States and elsewhere. The emphasis is on remembering those who died and honoring first responders and people who served others in the aftermath.
Beyond formal ceremonies, communities use the anniversary for volunteering, charity, blood drives, public service, and other acts intended to turn remembrance into service.
Firefighters, police officers, and medical workers showed extreme bravery. Ordinary citizens helped strangers reach safety. Many people risked or gave their own lives to save others. People turn this sad day into a positive day of action.
Volunteers help local restaurants, clean parks, and support veterans. Acts of kindness help communities heal and stand together.
