Igbo Organization NYC President Reportedly Taken Into Police Custody After Meeting Turns Chaotic

A tense meeting of the Igbo Organization in New York City reportedly ended with police intervention today.

According to witness accounts, President Ifeanyi Ajomiwu Nwakanma, who has led for about 4 years, was pushing for dissolution of the current organization to create an "affiliate" structure that would allow him to stay for another 4 years — potentially 8 years total.

Members who are demanding a fresh election reportedly opposed the move, leading to heated arguments.

What allegedly happened:
- Nwakanma allegedly pushed an Igbo man, who fell and had difficulty breathing for several minutes
- 911 was called
- Police arrived and Nwakanma was reportedly handcuffed and taken into custody

Other allegations raising concern:
Members are also questioning the financial management of the Igbo Hall, alleging:
- Hall rentals on Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays for $8,000 - $10,000 cash
- No receipts, no transparency on where funds go
- Members who oppose leadership allegedly silenced

Members are now demanding:
Transparency, audited financial records, constitutional governance, and a free and fair election.

Leadership is not ownership. No individual is bigger than the organization.
