History must never be forgotten.

The visit to the grave of Usman Dan Fodio should remind us that Nigeria’s history is complex, painful and deeply contested. We must be willing to confront the wars, conquests, political changes and human suffering that shaped the region while rejecting violence, domination and oppression in all forms.

We cannot change history, but we can learn from it and build a more united and peaceful Nigeria.
