What's Actually Keeping You Awake?

Hello family, In my previous post, we talked about what lack of sleep really feels like, that quiet battle at 1am with your eyes wide open and your brain still working, while your body is silently begging for rest. I believe quite a number of us know this feeling well. So now, let us gently walk through what is actually causing it.

1. Your phone.
Be honest with yourself, that "just five minutes" of scrolling before bed often quietly steals an hour or more without you even noticing. The bright screen tricks your brain into believing it is still daytime, and whatever you just read keeps replaying softly in your mind long after the phone has been dropped.

2. Overthinking. Unpaid bills, tomorrow's meeting, an unresolved argument, none of these switch off simply because your body has climbed into bed. Your brain keeps playing them over and over, like a movie stuck on repeat.

3. An irregular sleep schedule. Midnight one day, 2am the next, 4am another day. Your body genuinely loves rhythm, and when that rhythm keeps shifting, it struggles to know when it is truly time to rest.

4. Late caffeine or heavy meals. These quietly keep your body alert and active, right when it should be gently winding down for the night.

5. An uncomfortable room. Too bright, too noisy, or too hot, and your body simply cannot ease itself into deep, restful sleep.

Notice something here? Most of these causes are things we do to ourselves, often without realising it, and the phone remains one of the quietest, yet biggest, offenders of them all.

So, what comes next? My next post will focus gently on practical ways to manage this condition and finally find the rest your body has been asking you for.🌿
