RIP Ifeanyi | Delta Okada Rider | Father of 4
This is a true life story.
3 months ago or thereabout, Ifeanyi collected a brand new motorcycle on hire purchase. ₦5,000 or #7000 every week. He said “By December this bike will be mine.”
He was also a carpenter, but okada was what fed his 4 children daily.
2 nights ago, unknown men flagged him in Obiaruku for a trip to a place along Amai Road. Probably they offered a huge amount since it was late.
On a bush path, they beat him to stupor, took the new bike, and left him there.
A good Samaritan rushed him to his family house, his family then rushed him Gen. Hospital Obiaruku, he was then referred to FMC, Asaba but he didn’t make it.
He died later. The bike is still missing. The men are still out there walking freely.
Now his wife is left with 4 children and a hire purchase debt.
Please riders, protect yourself:
1. No night trips to unknown bush paths. After 7pm, only places you know.
2. Ride in pairs/groups* when you must go far at night.
3. Share your location with someone before you take a fare. WhatsApp live location if possible
4. Install a tracker on hire purchase bikes.
5. Trust your gut. If a passenger is rushing you into a dark route, say no. Money can be made tomorrow.
6. Have emergency numbers on speed dial.
To the family: May God strengthen you.
To the riders: Come home to your children.
