Are Black People Intellectually Inferior? An Uncomfortable Question We Must Be Brave Enough to Ask.

There is a thought-provoking video on YouTube by BantuCityDiaries, and it left me wrestling with a question that many people are afraid to even mention.

Are Black people intellectually inferior, or is there another explanation?

Across the world, certain patterns seem difficult to ignore. Many communities where Black people form the overwhelming majority often struggle with poor sanitation, weak infrastructure, disorderly urban planning, corruption, and underdevelopment. Meanwhile, many countries and communities dominated by Europeans appear cleaner, better organized, wealthier, and more technologically advanced.

Even within Africa, many people point to the visible differences between parts of North Africa and much of sub-Saharan Africa. Others cite South Africa, where some predominantly white suburbs resemble modern European cities, while many predominantly Black townships face severe challenges with infrastructure, crime, and public services.

Outside Africa, many predominantly Black nations continue to struggle with similar problems seen across much of sub-Saharan Africa. Why do these patterns appear repeatedly? Is it merely coincidence?

These observations lead some people to a disturbing conclusion: that Black people are somehow intellectually deficient.

I reject that conclusion—but I also reject pretending the question doesn't exist.

Perhaps the more useful question is not whether Black people are intellectually inferior, but why so many Black-majority societies continue to underperform despite enormous human and natural resources. Why do we tolerate corruption? Why do we normalize disorder? Why do we often fail to maintain public infrastructure? Why do societies with immense potential continue to lag behind?

These are uncomfortable questions, but avoiding them will not solve our problems.

So I'll ask it again:
Are Black people intellectually inferior? Or are we refusing to confront the real reasons many Black societies struggle?
