Your Excellency President Tinubu and Honourable Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, 240 million Nigerians are writing to formally express a clear and direct position regarding the recently announced N35,000 wage award arrears for federal civil servants. While we acknowledge the directive to complete payment before August 15, we must respectfully state that we reject the N35,000 wage award.
Our demand is straightforward: every one of the 240 million Nigerians should receive the same monthly salary structure currently allocated to the President, the Minister of Finance, the Vice President, the Senate President, all ministers, all governors across the 36 states, and all officials in the 774 local government areas. We also demand for an immediate halt to monthly salary payments for these office holders until such parity is achieved.
We raise a simple question: why is salary payment and wage award prioritization happening now, only months before the presidential election? Why was this not done three years ago? Nigerians deserve clarity, honesty, and transparency.
We demand that all outstanding payments be made immediately—without delays, without slogans, and without political messaging.
According to publicly available information from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the official monthly salaries for political office holders are as follows:
President Bola Tinubu approximately ₦1.17 million monthly basic salary, with total annual compensation exceeding ₦106 million.
Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele: approximately ₦650,000 monthly basic salary, with total annual compensation exceeding ₦2 million.
These figures exclude allowances and benefits, which significantly increase the total cost of governance.
Our position remains firm Nigerians deserve equitable compensation, transparency, and accountability. We request immediate action.
