A Nigerian American, Joseph Nantomah, Pleads Guilty at Federal Court for $3 Million fraud
Joseph James Nantomah also known as Black Mentor is a Nigerian businessman, investor and life coach. On August 6, 2025, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission charged Joseph Nantomah and his three Wisconsin based companies with operating a real estate-related offering fraud, targeting members of the Nigerian-American community. June 2026, he pled guilty to wire fraud and unlawful monetary transactions.
He called himself "The Black Mentor" and promised our people a bulletproof path to generational wealth. Nantomah operated out of Milwaukee, targeting Nigerian-Americans with guaranteed returns on fix-and-flip real estate- our own Igbo brothers and sisters.
Federal investigators found the empire was a mirage. Old investors paid with new investors' money โ classic Ponzi. Some victims lost retirement and children's school fees.
This one hit close to home โ and it's confirmed. Federal records match exactly what this. Nantomah sold trust. A couple lost $100k+ retirement money โ one victim told TMJ4: "He pretended he cared about us and he lied". As "The Black Mentor," he used:
1. Affinity fraud โ targeting Igbo Nigerian-Americans specifically, using our culture of respect for successful "brothers" and community wealth meetings
2. Lifestyle proof โ luxury cars, boats, jewelry, conferences to make $3M look like $23M
3. Lulling payments โ paying old investors with new investors' money to keep the illusion alive 7288
FBI analysis showed at least 32 investors nationwide, and 80%+ was diverted to personal lifestyle, golden visas, etc. SEC filed civil fraud suit Aug 2025 โ alleging only 11 properties worth โผ$1M owned, half in foreclosure, vs claimed $23M empire.
-Nearly 24 civil suits by AxePoint Law in Milwaukee
- Criminal indictment early 2026, arrested in Florida
- Restitution $2.4M+ and asset forfeiture
Red flags for our people to know:
- Guaranteed high returns + no paperwork with SEC
- "Only for Nigerians" secret deals
- Pressure to bring retirement/education savings
- No audited statements, only Instagram house tours
September 18, 2026 will be the sentencing date, though, he is still in federal custody as flight risk. This case is why our Igbo unions must vet anyone selling "generational wealth" inside their community.
Let's protect ourselves:
1. No legit investment guarantees high returns with zero risk
2. Verify with SEC โ search the company & person
3. Never invest retirement money because "na our brother"
4. Ask for audited statements, not Instagram videos

The Black Mentor" built his brand on our trust. Promised Igbo families generational wealth through real estate. FBI says he ran a $3M Ponzi, spending retirement savings on boats & golden visas.
If it sounds too good, check http://SEC.gov first. Our community deserves better.
