Governor Dr. Alex C. Otti , OFR, has called for a stronger commitment to the welfare, protection and inclusion of older persons, describing the care of senior citizens as a responsibility that every society owes to those whose sacrifices laid the foundation for national development.
The Governor made the remarks while delivering the keynote address at the 60th birthday symposium of Apostle Bolaji Oluwayanmife Akinyemi, Convener of The Apostolic Roundtable, President of Voice of His Word Ministries and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Project Victory Call Initiative (PVC Naija). The event, also featured the unveiling of Apostle Akinyemi's latest publication, "Global Leadership Code: Donald J. Trump As A Case Study.
His Excellency, the Governor, Spoke on the theme, "Life at 60: Senior Citizens, Government's Role and the Citizens' Pact," Governor Otti described Apostle Akinyemi as a principled leader whose life has reflected courage, integrity, faith and dedication to national development. He observed that every thriving society is built on responsible leadership and active citizenship, where both government and the people play their respective roles with honesty and accountability.
Drawing from Abia's experience, the Governor pointed to the Abia State Senior Citizens Centre Law No. 4 of 2025, explaining that the legislation was enacted to guarantee healthcare, welfare support, emergency assistance, legal protection and greater social inclusion for residents aged sixty years and above. He added that the necessary structures have already been established to ensure the law delivers tangible benefits to elderly citizens across the State.
Governor Otti also noted that his administration's sustained investments in healthcare, education and road infrastructure are aimed at improving the quality of life for all residents while creating an environment where older persons can live with dignity, security and access to quality healthcare.
Congratulating Apostle Akinyemi on attaining the milestone age of sixty, he commended the celebrant for choosing to mark the occasion with thoughtful national conversations on leadership and governance instead of mere festivities. He encouraged Nigerians to embrace constructive engagement, patriotism and shared responsibility in the collective task of building a stronger nation.
Speaking also was Pastor Goke Poka of House on the Rock Ministries, he urged Nigerians to cultivate genuine loyalty to God, their nation and humanity, stressing that lasting national progress depends on citizens who place the common good above personal interests.
The celebration concluded with Governor Alex Otti joining Apostle Bolaji Oluwayanmife Akinyemi, family members, associates and other distinguished guests for the unveiling of the new book and the cutting of the 60th birthday cake, while tributes, prayers and goodwill messages poured in to honour the celebrant's enduring contributions to ministry and leadership development .
