Twenty years ago today, Hubble locked its gaze on the fiery heart of galaxy NGC 1275—and what it captured still looks like pure cosmic drama.
Surrounding this elliptical giant (about 230 million light-years away) are long, glowing red filaments of cool gas, elegantly suspended in space by powerful magnetic fields. These aren’t just pretty threads—they’re the dramatic fingerprints of a supermassive black hole at the galaxy’s core, pumping energy outward and shaping the gas around it in a spectacular feedback loop.
